HORNETS HOST KEY HOME TILTS

Emporia State will host its final two regular season home matches of the season this weekend. Both contests are key matches in the MIAA Standings. Friday, the Hornets face Central Oklahoma who has a half game lead over ESU in the standings. Saturday the Hornets take on Pittsburg State who trails ESU by a game in the MIAA.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hornets were swept in three sets by #7 Nebraska-Kearney. Carly Spicer and Brianna Kaiser each had 10 kills in the loss.

THE?COACHES

Bing Xu is 208-84 in his ninth year as head coach at Emporia State. Xu has led the Hornets to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in five of the last eight seasons. In 2008 he led Emporia State to its first MIAA Championship. He is 7-1 against UCO. He is 11-7 against PSU.

Edgar Miraku is 31-26 in his second season as head coach at Central Oklahoma. The Bronchos were 13-18 in Miraku's first season at the helm. He is 1-1 against Emporia State. Ibraheem Suberu is 262-232 in his 15th season as head coach at Pittsburg State. He is 11-20 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS  

Emporia State is 15-9 overall, and in sixth place in the MIAA with a 6-6 record.  Carly Spicer leads the Hornets in kills per set at 2.56 while Paige Vanderpool is second with 2.45 kills per set.

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS

Central Oklahoma is 19-8 overall and tied for fourth place in the MIAA with a 7-6 record.

SCOUTING THE GORLLAS

Pittsburg State is 15-12 overall and tied for seventh place in the MIAA with a 5-7 record.

SERIES RECORDS    

Emporia State owns a record of 10-4 against Central Oklahoma and leads the series 66-22 against the Gorillas.

LAST TIME VS. BOTH TEAMS

Emporia State fell in four sets to Central Oklahoma on Sept. 27. The Hornets won the the first set, but dropped the final three. Carly Spicer had 12 kills for ESU. Allison Barr led the Bronchos with 16 kills.

The Hornets lost to the Gorillas in five sets on Sept 28. Hayley Hansford had 54 assists in that match which is  the highest individual total posted against ESU this season.
