FIRST ROUND MATCH

Emporia State travels to Edmond, Okla. for a first round match in the MIAA Tournament against Central Oklahoma. The Hornets are the #5 seed in the tournament, while the host Bronchos are the #4 seed. This will be the third meeting between the two teams in 2013 as the Bronchos own two four-set victories. 

LAST TIME OUT

The Hornets swept their regular season finale against Lindenwood. Brianna Kaiser and Paige Vanderpool each had double-doubles in their final regular season matches. The two seniors each had 10 kills and 13 digs in the win.

THE?COACHES

Bing Xu is 211-85 in his ninth year as head coach at Emporia State. Xu has led the Hornets to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in five of the last eight seasons. In 2008 he led Emporia State to its first MIAA Championship. He is 7-2 against UCO. 

Edgar Miraku is 35-27 in his second season as head coach at Central Oklahoma. He is 2-1 against Emporia State. 

SCOUTING THE HORNETS  

Emporia State is 18-10 overall, and tied for fifth place in the MIAA with an 9-7 record.  Carly Spicer leads the Hornets in kills per set at 2.62 while Paige Vanderpool is second with 2.49 kills per set. Courtney Haring leads the team in blocks with 122. Sydney Hartman and Macki Pankratz each average better than five assists per match. 

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS

Central Oklahoma is 23-9 overall and 9-7 in n the MIAA.  The Lions are led in kills per set by Barbara Jackson who is averaging 3.59, while Allison Barr is averaging 2.80 kills per set.  Barr has a total 34 kills in Central Oklahoma's two wins against ESU this season. Taylyn Schwartz averages 8.46 assists per game to lead the Bronchos.

SERIES RECORDS    

Emporia State leads the series against the Bronchos 10-5.

LAST TIME VS. BRONCHOS

Emporia State fell 3-1 to Central Oklahoma in a November 8, meeting. Shayla Cotman had 11 kills for Emporia. Paige Vanderpool added 10 kills for the Hornets.  Allison Barr and Barbara Jackson each had 18 kills for UCO.

IN THE MIAA TOURNAMENT

In 2012 the Hornets went 1-1 in the tournament with a win against Truman and a semi-final loss against Nebraska.-Kearney. Since 2007, Emporia State is 6-4 in the MIAA Tournament. Central Oklahoma lost to the Lopers in their first MIAA Postseason appearance during their inaugural MIAA season.

UP NEXT 

The winner of the match will advance to the MIAA Semfinals and will face the winner of the #1 seeded Central Missouri and #8 seed Pittsburg State. The highest remaining seed after the first round will host the semifinals and finals on campus.
