HORNETS To FACE LIONS
Emporia State travels to St. Charles, Mo. to wrap up the regular season. The Hornets will face the Lindenwood Lions for just the second time in program history after closing out the 2012 season with a 3-1 against Lindenwood in Emporia's White Auditorium.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets swept the season series against in-state rivals Fort Hays State. Emporia State lost the first set to FHSU before closing out the match on a 9-2 run in the final set. Carly Spicer had 12 kills for the Hornets while Brianna Kaiser and Courtney Haring each added nine.
THE?COACHES
Bing Xu is 210-85 in his ninth year as head coach at Emporia State. Xu has led the Hornets to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in five of the last eight seasons. In 2008 he led Emporia State to its first MIAA Championship. He is 1-0 against Lindenwood.
Ron Young is 333-147 in his 15th season as head coach at Lindenwood. He is 0-1 against Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 17-10 overall, and tied for fifth place in the MIAA with an 8-7 record. Carly Spicer leads the Hornets in kills per set at 2.65 while Paige Vanderpool is second with 2.46 kills per set. Courney Haring leads the team in blocks with 114. Sydney Hartman and Macki Pankratz each average better than five assists per match.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Lindenwood is 9-19 overall and 6-8 in their second season in the MIAA. The Lions are led in kills per set by Kayal Guot who is averaging 2.79, while Shannon Doyle is averaging 2.50 kills per set. Emma Brydels leads the team in assist averaging 9.30 assists per game The Lions won their most recent match 3-1 over Missouri Southern and will host Washburn Nov. 15, before playing the Hornets
SERIES RECORDS
This will be just the second time these two teams have faced with Emporia State winning the first meeting in 2012.
LAST TIME VS. LIONS
Emporia State defeated the Lions 3-1 in Emporia on November 10, 2012 in Emporia to close out the 2012 season. Carly Spicer and Paige Vanderpool each had 14 kills in the win.
IN THE MIAA
Emporia State trails Central Oklahoma by half a game in the MIAA Standings and are currently tied with Missouri Western for fifth place. A win by the Hornets would secure the #5 seed in the MIAA Tournament. Carly Spicer is seventh in the league in hitting percentage. Freshman Libero Kelly Holden is eighth with a 4.35 digs per set average.
UP NEXT
Emporia State has qualified for the MIAA Postseason Tournament which begins on Nov. 19. The top four seeds will host opening round matches in the eight-team tournament.
