Hornets rally from one set down to win eighth MIAA match

November 13, 2013 -  After dropping the opening set, Emporia State rallied to knock off Fort Hays State 3-1 to earn their eighth MIAA match of the season.

The Hornets battled through a tough third set to win 26-24. There was eight ties in the set the final tie coming at 24-all.  Emporia State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fourth set forcing an early Fort Hays timeout. The Tigers tied the game at 14 and took an 18-16 lead before the Hornets outscored them 9-4 down the stretch.

Carly Spicer lead Emporia State with 12 kills, while Courtney Haring added six blocks. Syndey Hartman finished with a team-high 24 assists.

With the win Emporia State improves to 17-10 overall and 8-7 in the MIAA clinching at least a .500 MIAA record.

The Hornets have clinched a berth in the eight-team MIAA Postseason Tournament and will finish the regular season Nov. 16 in St. Charles, Mo. against Lindenwood.
