HORNETS HEAD TO HAYS
Emporia State travels to Hays, Kan. for its second to last regular season MIAA match. The Tigers host the Hornets before Emporia State travels to St. Charles, Mo. to wrap up the regular season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets avenged an earlier season loss to Pittsburg State by defeating the Gorillas 3-1 at White Auditorium. Courtney Haring and Carly Spicer had huge hitting night against Pittsburg State. Haring hit .591 with 13 kills in the four-set match. Spicer finished the night hitting .538 with 14 kills.
THE?COACHES
Bing Xu is 209-85 in his ninth year as head coach at Emporia State. Xu has led the Hornets to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in five of the last eight seasons. In 2008 he led Emporia State to its first MIAA Championship. He is 15-1 against FHSU.
Kurt Kohler is 57-91 in his fifth season as head coach at Fort Hays State. He is 1-8 against Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 16-10 overall, and in sixth place in the MIAA with a 7-7 record. Carly Spicer leads the Hornets in kills per set at 2.64 while Paige Vanderpool is second with 2.47 kills per set. Courney Haring leads the team in blocks with 108. Sydney Hartman and Macki Pankratz each average better than five assists per match. The Hornets are 1-5 on the road in 2013, with two road matches left.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Fort Hays State owns an overall record of 13-17 and 3-11 in the MIAA. Taylor Mares leads three Tigers with kill per set averages above two. She is currently averaging .277 kills per set, while Mallory Flagor and Madison Schwartz are averaging 2.49 and 2.38 kills per set respectively. Carly Spicer is seventh in the league in hitting percentage. Freshman Libero Kelly Holden is eighth with a 4.35 digs per set average.
