November 10, 2013-In an early season game with both regional and national implications, #5 Emporia State defeated #9 Concordia-St. Paul 71-52 in the Lady Hornets final game at the Division II Tip-Off Classic in Anaheim, Calif.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 7-2 lead early only to see the Golden Bears take a 13-12 lead with 10:42 left in the first half. Emporia State then used an 8-1 run to take the lead for good.
The lead would grow to 24 points with 3:08 left in the game before the Lady Hornets settled into the 19 point victory.
Amber Vandiver led the Lady Hornets with 18 points and ten rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Laura Patrick with 14 points, Kelly Moten with 12 and Rheanna Egli with 11 points. Emporia State outrebounded Concordia-ST. Paul 52-30 and held the Bears to just 31.1% shooting for the day.
Emporia State will return to Kansas this week for a game at Newman on Nov. 14 in Wichita.
