October 8, 2013-The Emporia State volleyball team fell in four sets in a non-conference match at Missouri Western on Tuesday night. The Hornets fell 26-28, 19-25, 25-18, 23-25.

There were five ties and two lead changes in the first set.  Emporia State led 19-16 before Mo. Western stormed back to take a 28-26 lead.  The Griffons led from start to finish in a 25-19 loss in set two and the Hornets never trailed in a 25-18 win in the third set.  The fourth set saw ten ties and three lead changes with Emporia State taking the biggest lead at 12-8.  The score was tied at 17, 19, 20, and 22 before the Griffons scored three of the final four points to take the match.

The Hornets again got strong play from their middles as Courtney Haring, Carly Spicer and Meghan Dugan combined for 35 of the Hornets 58 kills on the night. Dugan had 12 kills on .526 hitting with five blocks.  Haring had 12 kills with six blocks and Spicer added 11 kills with four blocks.

Emporia State will return to tournament action this weekend when they travel to Joplin, Mo.  They will play South Dakota Mines and Harding on Friday followed by a match against Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday.
