HORNETS LOOKING FOR LUCKY #8
Emporia State will be looking for its eight straight win in the second match of the 2012 Turnpike Tussle. The Hornets received two votes in the most recent AVCA National poll after winning seven matches in a row.
LAST TIME OUT
Paige Vanderpool and Brianna Kaiser each had double-doubles in a five set win over Northwest Missouri. The two seniors had 14 kills and 11 kills respectively. Vanderpool finished with 11 digs, while Kaiser added 12 digs. Courtney Haring had ten kills and nine blocks against the Bearcats. Sydney Hartman dished a career high 31 assists.
THE?COACHES
Bing Xu is 208-82 in his ninth year as head coach at Emporia State. Xu has led the Hornets to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in five of the last eight seasons. In 2008 he led Emporia State to its first MIAA Championship. He is 4-14 against Washburn.Chris Herron is 364-63 in his 12th season at Washburn and 439-93 in his 14th year overall. He has a record of 19-6 against Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State has won seven straight to improve to 15-7 overall and 6-4 in the MIAA. The MIAA record currenty has them in the fourth sport in conference standings. Carly Spicer leads the Hornets in kills per set at 2.56. Libero Kelly Holden leads the team in digs at 4.41 per set, while Courtney Haring leads the team with 1.18 blocks per set.
SCOUTING THE ICHABODS
The #11 Ichabods are 22-4 overall, 9-1 in the MIAA. Marissa Cox leads Washburn with 3.63 kills per set, which is closely followed by Leanna Miller's 3.38 kills per game. Abby Wittman is averaging 10.93 assists and Kelsey Lewis is 4.38 digs per set for the Ichabods.
SERIES RECORDS
Emporia State leads the all-time series between the two programs with a 63-29 record. Washburn has come out victorious the last eight times they have met. The Hornets last win came in 2009.
LAST TIME VS. WASHBURN
In a hard fought three set match, Emporia State fell to #11 Washburn 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 in White Auditorium. Courtney Haring led the Hornets with eight kills on .385 hitting with seven blocks. As a team Emporia State out blocked Washburn 12.0-6.0 at the net but were held to just .129 hitting as a team.
IN THE MIAA
Shayla Cotman and Courntey Haring are both currently in the top 10 in hitting percentage in the MIAA. Cotman is hitting .362 to rank third while Haring is currently hitting .320 and ranked ninth. Haring is fourth in the league with 1.18 blocks per set. Freshman Kelly Holden is sixth in the MIAA with 4.41 digs per set.

Emporia State will travel to Kearney, Neb. to face the nationally ranked Lopers. Nebraska-Kearney is currently ranked #7 in the AVCA National Poll and defeated the Hornets 3-0 in Emporia on October 4.
