October 12, 2013-Emporia State put up a school record 747 yards of total offense in a 63-17 Homecoming victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday in Emporia. Brent Wilson led the assault going 19 of 25 for 385 yards and three touchdowns while adding 57 rushing yards on eight carries.
The Hornets raced out to a 28-0 lead by the start of the second quarter and led 49-7 at the half. Antonio Brown opened the scoring with a 15 yard touchdown run with 10:46 left in the first quarter. Wilson found Ray Ray Davis for a 41 yard touchdown pass with 8:24 left and then Davis took a direct snap for a one yard touchdown run and a 21-0 lead with 3:32 left in the opening period.
Wilson hit Austin Willis for a 52 yard touchdown early in the second quarter before SBU finally got on the board. Robert McWright scored from five yards out to make the score 28-7 Emporia State with 9:10 remaining in the half. The Hornets answered right away when Dozie Iwaugwu scored on a season long 52 yard run with 7:41 left in the half. Wilson had his third touchdown of the half when he connected with Davis for a 12 yard score at the 4:17 mark. Jordan Tice scored from 11 yards out with 28 seconds left to send the Hornets to the lockerroom with a 49-7 lead.
The Bearcats scored the first points of the second half on a 35 yard field goal from John Colliver with 4:16 remaining in the third. With Corben Jones at quarterback, the Hornets quickly answered with a six play, 66 yard drive capped by a four yard run by Brown.
Joey Dominguez hit Zachary Sohn for a nine yard touchdown to open the fourth quarter and pull the Bearcats within 56-17. The Hornets then put together their longest drive of the night on the clock with a 5:04 drive that ended with a one yard touchdwon run by Iwaugwu.
The Hornets had a school record 747 yards on 86 offensive plays for an average of 8.7 yards per play. For the second game this year Emporia State threw for over 500 yards. In addition to Wilson's 385 yards through the air, Jones was ten of 12 for 116 yards. A total 11 Hornets caught a pass led by Davis with seven catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Willis had five receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown while Mitchell Foote had four catches for 82 yards. Iwaugwu led the Hornets with 73 yards rushing on 11 carries as the Hornets had a season high 246 yards rushing on 49 carries.
Jordan Sanders led the Hornet defense with 12 tackles, with 1.5 TFL that included half a sack. Curtis Shorts and Ashton Reichman each had an interception for the Hornets.
Emporia State hits the road to St. Charles, Mo. next weekend to play Lindenwood. Kick-off from Hunter Stadium is set for 1:30 p.m.

Emporia State broke the school record of 703 yards of total offense set against then Missouri-Rolla in 1997.
This was the first time Emporia State had topped 60 points since a 69-6 win at Oklahoma Panhandle State to open the 2004 season. It was the first time the Hornets scored 60 in a home game since a 63-17 win over Missouri Southern in the 1998 Homecoming game.
The 49 points are the most in the first half by the Hornets in school history, surpassing the 41 points scored at Neb.-Kearney last season.
The Hornets had three drives of over 90 yards that each took less than ten plays.
