October 11, 2013-Emporia State started things off in the MIAA/GAC Challenge with a pair of 3-0 wins on Friday afternoon. The Hornets defeated South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and Harding in Joplin, Mo.Â
Courtney Haring had ten kills on .571 hitting with four blocks in the win over S. D. Mines while Brianna Kaiser matched her ten kills. Kelly Holden averaged 6.0 digs per set, finishing with 18 in the 25-18, 25-23, 25-23 win.
Paige Vanderpool turned in one of her better matches of the season in the 26-24, 25-21, 25-22 win over Harding. She had 13 kills, 13 digs and two blocks for her third double-double of the year. Haring and Carly Spicer both added nine kills in the match.
Emporia State will wrap up the tournament action on Saturday against Southeastern Oklahoma State. First serve is set for 9:00 a.m. in Joplin, Mo.
