HORNETS TRAVEL TO JOPLIN

Emporia State will travel to Joplin, Mo. to compete in the MIAA/GAC Crossover. The Hornets will play two matches on October 11 and one on October 12. Emporia State is 6-2 in neutral site games this season.

HORNETS FALL TO GRIFFONS

Emporia State enters the match coming off a 3-1 loss to Missouri Western. The 28-26, 25-19, 18-25, 25-23 loss was considered a non-conference game and will not count in the MIAA standings.  Courtney Haring and Meghan Dugan each had 12 kills in the loss.

THE?COACHES

Bing Xu is 201-82 in his ninth year as head coach at Emporia State. Xu has led the Hornets to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in five of the last eight seasons. In 2008 he led Emporia State to its first MIAA Championship. He is 2-0 against the Harding and 2-0 against Southeastern Oklahoma.

Tiffany McCampbell is in her fourth season as head coach at South Dakota Mines and has an overall record of 64-71.

Meredith Fear is 15-5 in her first season as head coach at Harding. 

Jenn King is in her fourth season as head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma State. She has an overall record of 36-69 and is 0-1 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS  

Emporia State is 8-7 overall. Carly Spicer leads the Hornets in kills per set at 2.71 and in hitting percentage at .332 while Courtney Haring averages 1.04 blocks per set.

SCOUTING THE LADY ROCKERS

The Lady Rockers currently have a 6-11 record. Justine Blade leads the Lady Rockers with a  kills per set mark of 2.26. Carsyn Garcia is averaging 9.43 assists per set.

SCOUTING THE BISON

Harding is 15-5 on the season. The Bison are led in kills by Mollie Arnold who is averaging 4.17 kills per set. Taryn Eubank leads Harding in assists with 9.75 per set.

SCOUTING THE SAVAGE STORM

The Savage Storm currently have a .500 record at 7-7. Emily Gentle leads Southeastern Oklahoma State with 3.85 kills per set and Madelynne Cerna had 8.74 assists per game.

SERIES RECORDS    

This will be the first time Emporia State and South Dakota Mines have met in volleyball action. The Hornets are 5-1 all-time against Harding and 3-0 against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

LAST TIME VS. HARDING & SE OKLA.The Hornets defeated Harding 3-1 in Pittburg Kan., on September 1, 2012. Sydney Hartman had 22 assists and Paige Vanderpool had 11 kills and 13 digs in the match.

On October 5, 2012, Emporia State swept the Savage Storm 3-0 behind a double-double from Brianna Kaiser. Carly Spicer was 10 of 13 against  for a .769 hitting percentage.

ESU will return to action on October 18 to face Missouri Southern in the first of three straight MIAA home matches.
