January 27, 2013-The Emporia State men had a nine point lead with 11:16 left but were outscored 31-16 the remainder of the game as they fell 77-71 to Central Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon in White Auditorium.
The Bronchos hit their first five shots from the field, four of them three-pointers, to take a 14-9 lead early. The Hornets would use a 7-0 lead to erase a five point deficit to go up 28-26 with 5:29 left in the half. Emporia State would take a 35-32 into the lockerroom.
Emporia State pushed their lead to 46-38 with 15:10 left in the game and led 55-46 with 11:16 remaining on a Paul Bunch tip in. Cal Andrews then hit three straight three pointers for Central Oklahoma to tie the game at 55 with 9:50 left.
The Hornets led by four with 7:21 left and could have had a five point lead except for a Kaleb Wright lane violation on Daniel Shaw's free throw at that point. The Bronchos then went on a 8-0 run ot take the lead for good.
Shaw hit two free throws with 1:35 left to pull the Hornets within 68-66 but the Bronchos hit seven of ten free throws to ice the win.
Chris Sights scored 16 points to lead Emporia State and was joined in double figures by Bunch with 14, Tre Boutilier with 11 and Taylor Euler with ten points. Bunch added a team high eight rebounds and five blocked shots.
The Hornets are back in action on Wednesday, January 30 when they travel to Neb.-Kearney. Tip-off from the Health and Sports Center in Kearney, Neb. is set for 7:30 p.m.
