January 2, 2013-The Emporia State men conected on just eight of 21 free throws in a 61-54 loss at #8 Washburn in non-conference action on Saturday night in Lee Arena. Neither team led by more than seven points on the night with the Ichabods hitting that mark with just 3.2 seconds left.
Paul Bunch scored the final six points of the first half for Emporia State to give the Hornets a 27-24 lead at the break. Kaleb Wright hit a shot and Taylor Euler hit back to back three-pointers to give Emporia State a 35-28 lead with 17:03 left in the game.
The Hornets maintained the lead until the 4:09 mark when Bobby Chipman scored to give the Ichabods a 50-49 lead. Euler hit one of two free throws with 1:07 left to pull Emporia State within three at 55-52 but Washburn hit six of eight free throws in the final 1:06 to ice the win.
Euler led Emporia Staet iwth 17 points and tied his career high with four made three-pointers. Bunch added his second double-double in four games with 14 points, ten rebounds and a game high three blocked shots.Terrence Moore was the only other Hornet to score over five points, finishing with eight and three steals.
Emporia State returns to MIAA action on Saturday when they take on Ft. Hays State. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. in White Auditorium.
