Emporia State drops just one set on weekend

September 1, 2012-Carly Spicer had 15 kills on .714 hitting as Emporia State swept Northwestern Oklahoma State 25-8, 25-14, 25-9 to go undefeated on the weekend at the Pitt State Classic. As a team the Hornet hit .356 in the match while holding the Rangers to -.048 hitting.

Emporia State jumped out to a 10-2 lead to open the game and set the tone for the entire match. Courtney Haring had three kills during the opening run.

Another 10-2 run broke a 10-10 tie in the second set. Spicer had three kills during the run.

The Hornets used a 14-2 run in the final set secure the sweep.  Spicer again had three kills during the decisive run.

Spicer was the only Hornet in double figure kills, but Brianna Kaiser added eight kills, a block assist and two aces for Emporia State.  Meg Schwartz had her fourth straight double figure dig match with 11 and is averaging 4.8 digs per set on the season.  Sydney Hartman had 20 assists and seven digs operating in the 6-2 set with Katie Deutschmann who finished with 14 assists, five kills on .625 hitting, four digs, and three block assists.

Emporia State will travel to Rolla, Mo. next weekend for the Missouri S&T Middle of Nowhere Classic.
