August 31, 2012 - The Emporia State volleyball team relied on efficient hitting to sweep Bemidji State (25-15, 25-28, 25-14) in its second match at the Pittsburg State Classic, improving its record to 2-0.

Bemidji State fell to a record of 1-1.

Carly Spicer led the Hornets with nine kills and three blocks, Morgan Buckner added eight, and Katie Deutschmann notched seven kills. Courtney Haring had five kills in nine attacks and chipped in three blocks. Meg Schwartz led with 13 digs and Sydney Hartman recorded 23 assists.

The Hornets hit .682 in set one, registering 16 kills in 22 attacks. The team hit .405 for the match, and had five players with at least 10 attacks.

Defensively the Hornets held Bemidji State to a .054 hitting percentage, as the Beavers were plagued by 24 attack errors. Emporia State also out-blocked the Beavers 8-0.

Emporia State plays game three of the Pittsburg State Classic at 9 a.m. Saturday versus Harding.
