April 14, 2012-Both the Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams were defeated by Northwest Missouri on Saturday at the EHS Courts.  The women lost 6-3 while the men fell 8-1 to the nationally ranked Bearcats.

Nicole Jara and Taylor Smith both won their single competition at #1 and #2 respectively.  Jara improved her singles record to 17-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Camila Quesada.  Just a freshman, Smith defeated senior Erika Leston 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 at #2 singles.  The #2 doubles team of Alex Crowe adn Jenny Gerhardt won 8-4 to give ESU their other win.

The Hornet men only won one match, but it was impressive as Andrew Davids and Matt Edwards defeated Mario Jakovljovic and Jose Ortega 8-6 at #1 doubles.  Jakovljovic and Ortega are currently ranked #25 in the nation and #5 in the South Central region.

ESU will wrap up the regular season on Monday, April 16 when the travel to Washburn.  The tennis edition of the Turnpike Tussle is set for a 2 p.m. start at the WU Courts in Topeka.
