March 31, 2012-The Emporia State women's tennis team improved to 13-3 on the season and 3-1 in MIAA play while the Hornet men saw their record drop to 6-5 as ESU split a pair of duals at Truman on Saturday.  The ESU women won 7-2 while the men fell 7-2 in Kirksville, Mo.

Nicole Jara led the ESU women as she moved to 15-0 on the season at #1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ellen Russell.  She teamed with Taylor Smith to post an 8-4 win at #1 doubles over Russell and Dagmar Velez as they improved to 12-3 on the season.  ESU swept the doubles with Alex Crowe and Jennifer Gerhardt winning at #2 doubles while Emily Huston and Abby Morris picked up the win at #3 doubles.  In addition to Jara, the Hornets got wins from Smith at #2, Huston at #5 and Morris at #6 singles.

Mitch Kibbe had a hand in both wins for the Hornet men.  He won 6-4, 6-3 at #3 singles and teamed with Matt VanHorn to win 8-6 at #2 doubles.

The Tennis Turnpike Tussle is the next action for the Hornets as they travel to Topeka on April 4 to take on Washburn.  First serve from the WU Tennis Complex is set for 2 p.m.
