March 17, 2012-The Emporia State men's and women's teams both lost their first MIAA matches of the year on Saturday to Southwest Baptist.  The Hornet women lost 6-3 while the men fell 8-1 to the #24 Bearcats.

The ESU women's #2 team of Alex Crowe and Jenny Gerdhardt won 8-6 for the only point in doubles play.  Nicole Jara moved to 12-0 on the season with another win at #1 singles.  She led Fanni Varga 6-0, 5-4 when Varga retired from the set with an injury.  Abby Morris picked up the other win for ESU as she moved to 13-0 overall and 11-0 at #6 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Crystal Guiot.

The Hornet men got their only win of the day against the nationally ranked Bearcats at #2 doubles.  Matt Van Horn and Mitch Kibbe won 9-8 over Kristof Kinal and Daniel Cardona with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker.  ESU freshman Andrew Davids took the first set off #24 Domingos Carissimo before falling 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.

The women are back in MIAA action on March 28 when they play host to Missouri Western at the Milton Courts.  Both teams are then in action on March 30 when they play host to Nebraska-Kearney in non-league action at the EHS Courts.
