March 14, 2012-Both the Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams defeated Kansas Wesleyan on Wednesday night.  Both teams won 8-1 in their final tune-ups before MIAA play begins this weekend.

The Hornet women moved to 10-1 on the year as they swept the singles competition after winning two of three doubles matches.  Nicole Jara led ESU as she moved to 10-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #1 singles. She teamed with Taylor Smith for an 8-2 win at #1 doubles as the pair moved to 8-2 on the season.  The Hornets had three players only drop one game - Smith at #2, Emily Huston at #5 and Abby Morris at #6 -  as all six singles players won in straight sets.

The ESU men improved to 6-2 this season after sweeping the doubles and winning five of six singles matches. Ethan Deckert had a 6-0, 6-0 win at #4 singles and teamed with Christian Lollar for an 8-4 win at #3 doubles.  Freshman Andrew Davids won his fourth straight match at #1 singles to move to 6-2 on the year.

The Hornet women will open MIAA play on Friday at Ft. Hays State before both the men and women take on Southwest Baptist in the MIAA home opener Saturday.  The SBU duals will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the EHS Courts.
