October 17, 2012- The Emporia State volleyball team could not extend its six match winning streak as #7 Central Missouri defeated the Hornets in straight sets 25-19, 25-22, 25-22 at the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo.
Katie Deutschmann led the Hornets in two categories, posting nine kills and 19 assists. Paige Vanderpool and Brianna Kaiser each put up double digit dig totals with 10. Carly Spicer was the most efficient hitter for Emporia State, registering seven kills in 13 attempts with only one error for a .462 mark.
Emporia State's attack improved with each set, as the Hornets hit .143 in set one, .258 in set two, and .308 in set three but Central Missouri was able to keep Emporia State at bay. The Hornets only held the lead once the entire match.
Bradye Peniston led Central Missouri with 13 kills while setter Julia Bates posted 40 assists.
The Hornets return home to White Auditorium Saturday for a match with Northwest Missouri. First serve is at 3 p.m.
