ESU hits .335 in final three sets

October 7, 2011 -- The Emporia State volleyball team hit .335 over the final three sets to come back from down 1-0 to defeat Pittsburg State 3-2 on the road. Four Hornets had double figure kill matches as ESU took the 24-26, 25-21, 28-26 and 25-20 victory.

Katie Deutschmann had her second straight double-double finishing with 13 kills and 17 assists. Hunter Porter in her first significant time on the floor for the Hornets had 11 kills and one block. Morgan Buckner came off the ESU bench to hit .435 with 11 kills.

Brianna Kaiser also finished with a double-double for ESU with 14 kills and 15 digs. She was joined by a third Hornet double-double from Amanda Gerety who had 38 assists along with 13 digs. Meg Schwartz pushed her streak of double figure dig matches to 22 with 25 digs on the night. Courtney Haring, who leads the MIAA and is third in the nation in blocks, had four blocks to lead the Hornets.

ESU will face Missouri Southern on Oct. 8, with a scheduled 3 p.m. first serve from Joplin, Mo.
