October 28, 2011 -- The Emporia State volleyball team came from down 2-1 to earn a 3-2 victory on the road at Missouri Western. ESU used eight service aces and an 11-6 block advantage to pull out the 23-25, 25-15, 17-25, 25-22 and 15-11 win.
Meg Schwartz continued her strong defensive play as she finished with 29 digs to lead ESU. Hunter Port came off the bench in the third set and tied a career high with 11 kills while hitting a career high .500 on the evening. Katie Deutschmann had a double-double leading the Hornets with 13 kills and adding 19 assists. Paige Vanderpool had her second straight double-figure kill match and added a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Courtney Haring had a match high six blocks and finished her fourth straight match with a solo block and added six kills. Caitlyn Murray hit .333 and had eight kills along with four blocks. Amanda Gerety had a double-double finishing with 35 assists and 11 digs. Brianna Kaiser added 11 digs and seven kills for ESU.
The Hornets will play at Northwest Missouri on Oct. 29 with a scheduled 3 p.m. first serve.
