December 7, 2011 -- The Emporia State men's basketball team shot 6-20 from the three-point line while Newman shot .500 percent going 12-24 from behind the arc in a 77-60 victory. ESU outscored the Jets 28-26 in the paint, but could not overcome the three point shooting.

Newman shot .545 going 6 for 11 from the three-point line as they took a 36-27 lead into halftime. ESU would get as close as seven points before a Newman run built the lead to 21, ESU would cut the lead to 11 but would get no closer. Newman had eight steals and scored 22 points off of turnovers in the game.

Tola Lawal scored 17 points to lead the Hornets and also added three rebounds. Taylor Euler shot a team best 6 for 11 from the field on his way to 14 points. Troy Pierce had a career high 12 rebounds to pace the Hornets on the glass and added eight points.

ESU will return to the floor on Dec. 10 when they face Central Missouri for a scheduled 7:30 p.m. tip-off from W. L. White Auditorium.
