Willie Knox was a four-year letterwinner for the Hornet basketball team from 1939-43. A native of Piedmont, he was viewed as an outstanding all-around athlete and was labeled a “workhorse” for his ability to get to the free throw line. During his career, he was described as one of the most likeable men to ever don a Hornet uniform. A three-time All-Conference performer, he led the CIC in free throw percentage in 1942 and was ranked among the top five rebounders in the league in 1941-43. Knox later was an outstanding coach and administrator.
