Wendell Goldsmith competed in football and track & field during his career at Emporia State University from 1935-39.  He lettered four years in football and three times was named to the all-conference team.  He also earned three letters in track & field.  Following his collegiate playing days, he played professional football for two years with the New York Giants.  He went on to a successful coaching career at the prep level that included 35 years at Trego Community High School in WaKeeney.  His football teams had a 66-41-3 record.  In track & field, he coached several individual state champions and his 1974 cross country squad finished second in the state meet.  His teams won 19 conference track championships and numerous other cross country league titles.
