Herb Dixon was a four-year letterman in football from 1937-40. He earned all-conference and all-state honors and was named to the first-team Missouri/Kansas All-Star Bowl in 1940. He also played professional football for the Oakland Giants in 1945. He was named to Fran Welch’s "All-Time Dream Team" as a center, and Coach Welch commented, "He was the linebackingest center I ever coached."
Dixon went on to become a highly successful coach and administrator at the high school level. He coached all sports at Garfield (Kan.) Community High School, coached football and track, and served as Athletic Director at Dodge City High School when he was only 22.
