Everett D. "Gus" Fish enjoyed an illustrious career as both player and coach. He was a standout on the Hornet football and basketball teams during his career (1925-29). During his 25-year tenure as basketball coach from 1945-70, he compiled a 334-287 record. His teams won six conference championships, tied for another, and made six appearances in the NAIA national tournament, placing fourth in 1946 and 1964. He was president of the NAIA in 1955 and helped establish the NAIA track & field program. In 1960, Fish assisted with the U.S. Olympic basketball team and also was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame.
