Fanny Markham distinguished himself as a two-sport all-star athlete at Emporia State University from 1947-50 as an excellent basketball player and baseballer. As a cager, Markham earned three varsity letters enroute to being named a first-team all-conference performer as both a junior and senior. A veteran of two conference champion teams, Markham was a cagey playmaker in the truest sense of the word. A long-range bomber, it was his heady decision-making ability that set him apart on the hardwoods. On the diamond, Markham combined flashy defensive skills with an excellent bat. A sure-fielding shortstop, Markham was a two-year letterwinner in baseball and led the Hornet nine in hitting in 1950 with a .391 batting average. That Hornet team went 12-4 on the education and has served at nearly every level of administration in the school system. He earned his master’s degree from the University of Washington in 1954 and a doctorate from the University of Southern California in 1973.
