Dennis Shogren participated in basketball and baseball while attending school at Emporia State University. He was considered by many to be one of the top all-around athletes of his day, earning three varsity basketball letters and three varsity baseball letters between 1947-50. Shogren received all-conference honors in both sports for the three years in which he participated. Shogren went on to play baseball in the Kansas Baseball Congress in Wichita before playing semi-pro baseball in Superior, Neb.
