Tryon was a four-year letterman for the Hornet football squad from 1983-86. He left his mark as the school’s all-time leading rusher gaining 3,593 yards. An All-American and All-District 10 selection as a senior, he earned All-CSIC?honors in each of his four seasons with the Hornets. He also earned NAIA National Player of the Week honors after setting a school-record with 304 yards rushing in a 1986 game against Wayne State. As a junior, the Overbrook native was named Sigma Pi Player of the Year. He also was named ESU Offensive Player of the Year as a senior. He was the second player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons when he gained 1,114 yards in 1985 and 1,144 yards in 1986. He also finished his career in second place on the school’s all-purpose yardage list with 4,444 yards.
