Fischer was one of three freshmen to letter in his first year for legendary coach Fran Welch. He was named to the All-Conference and All-Kansas squads during his career. Fischer was a longtime coach and administrator at Newton High School. His 1952 Railroaders team captured the Ark Valley League Championship. Newton’s Fischer Field, formerly known as the football field at Athletic Park, was renamed and dedicated posthumously in his honor in 1993.
