Bob Clements was the proto-type linebacker on some of ESU’s finest football teams. A three-year letterwinner at ESU, Clements earned first-team All-District 10 and All-Central States Conference honors following his senior season. He also was an honorable mention All-American and captained the Hornets while playing both linebacker and fullback. Emporia State University went 14-6 in Clements’ junior and senior seasons, with the 1972 squad earning a bid to the Boot Hill Bowl. A ferocious hitter, Clements was voted as the team’s Most Valuable Player following his senior campaign. Clements played professional football briefly with the New England Patriots. Following his playing days, Clements turned his attention to coaching and was on the staff at Emporia High School that coached the 1976 Spartans to the state championship and the 1982 squad to a runner-up finish.
