Quayle served as ESU’s Director of Athletics from 1979-99 and was the chairperson of HPER?from 1979-89. Many of Quayle’s efforts during the final years of his tenure included directing the transition of Emporia State athletics out of the NAIA and into the NCAA. His leadership also has been evident in projects such as the construction of the Trusler Sports Complex and the many renovations to Welch Stadium and the Zola Witten Track. Prior to ESU joining the NCAA?in 1991, Quayle served as NAIA District 10 chairperson from 1985-90. He also played a key role in ESU’s bid to host the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 1995 and 1999, the 1996 NCAA Division II Softball Championships, and the 1998 NCAA II Cross Country Championships. Quayle is an active member and vice-president of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors and served on the NCAA Football Regional Rankings Committee.
