Archie SanRomani was a world-class distance runner while competing for the Emporia State University track team from 1933-37. He won the National Collegiate mile in 1935 and the 1,500-meter run in 1936. SanRomani anchored the Hornets’ distance medley relay team when it broke the world record in 1936. He finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run in the Olympics in Berlin that same year. In 1937, he broke the world record in the 2,000-meter run, a mark that had stood for 25 years. SanRomani, who is a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame, was selected "Most Outstanding Italian Athlete in the United States" by the Italian-American League in 1937.
