Al Feuerbach was a world-class shot putter in the late 1960s and 1970s. As of 1985, he held the NAIA national indoor meet record of 62-8 3/4 set in 1970. At the ’70 outdoor nationals, he set a record that stood for seven years. He won the NAIA shot put title outdoors in 1967 and ’70, and indoors in 1969 and ’70. He also had four second-place showings at national meets in the shot put and hammer throw. Feuerbach, a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame, was a member of the U.S. Olympic Team in ’72, ’76, and ’80. He placed fifth in the shot at the ’72 Games and fourth in the ’76 Games. He won the gold medal in the ’71 Pan American Games and was fourth in 1979. Feuerbach held the world indoor record four times and set a world mark outdoors in 1973 (71-7) that stood for nearly three years.
