October 8, 2013-With less than a week until the start of the 2013-14 basketball season the first preseason national polls are starting to come out. The Emporia State Lady Hornets are ranked #9 in the Women's Division II Bulletin national poll.
The defending MIAA Tournament Champions return three of five starters including leading scorer Laura Patrick and leading rebounder Merissa Quick. The Lady Hornets won the MIAA Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season. This is the 17th straight season Emporia State has made an appearance in the national rankings.
The Lady Hornets open the exhibition season on October 30 when they play host to Central Methodist at White Auditorium/Slaymaker Court. The regular season opener is set for November 8 at the Disney Tip-off Classic in Anaheim, Calif.
